    Before You Book an Appointment

A little preparation makes the first visit considerably more useful.

Preparation makes a first appointment more useful.

    What to have ready

A current list of medications and doses, any medical conditions and allergies, your insurance details, and the name of your previous dental practice so records and radiographs can be requested. Transferring existing images avoids unnecessary repeat exposure.

    How long to allow

A new-patient examination takes forty-five to sixty minutes, because it includes an oral cancer screening, charting of existing restorations, periodontal measurements around each tooth, a bite assessment and risk-justified radiographs. A routine hygiene visit is usually under an hour.

If you need to be seen urgently

Say so when you book an appointment and describe your symptoms — particularly any swelling and whether you can swallow normally — so the visit can be prioritised correctly. Swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, or fever with facial swelling, means the emergency department rather than a dental chair. Overnight, Health811 offers free nurse-led advice in Ontario. See our emergency dental page.

    Insurance and costs

Fees reference the Ontario Dental Association suggested fee guide. For anything substantial we can submit a predetermination so your insurer confirms coverage before treatment begins. If you are uninsured, ask whether you qualify under the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

If you are anxious about attending

Mention it when you book an appointment rather than on arrival. It allows a longer slot and a plan, which may include an agreed pause signal or sedation. This is a routine request, not an unusual one.

    Rescheduling and cancellations

Please give as much notice as you can so the time can be offered to someone waiting, and ask to join the short-notice list if you would like to be seen sooner. Our registration can be verified on the public register held by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Dental Association publishes independent patient guidance, and our FAQ covers common questions.
